Sometimes I need a little reminder that I am a parent. It has come to my attention that I may have been a bit loose-lipped in the car lately. On Saturday Layla and I were stopping off at the Walgreens near the house. It is next to Trader Joe's and Burhop's Seafood, so it is generally a chaotic parking lot. Amplify that by Saturday morning and you can imagine the scene. I am getting irritated but staying quiet; then I hear from the back seat an annoyed voice, "C'mon people!" and moment later, "Right Mama? Let's get going!"
Hopefully, she didn't learn anything more at the airport last week when I flipped the bird and cursed at the cab driver that cut me off and nearly sideswiped us........

Fun Weekends!
We've had some fun weekends the last month, including a trip to Green Bay, a baby shower and visit to a new baby, and a visit from Aunt Allie.
For the weekend of the wedding of Jason's cousin, Eric, to the lovely Karen we headed north to Green Bay. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception at the Tundra Lodge was so much fun. Lots of dancing to a LIVE BAND (a rare treat) and great food. Layla's favorite part was the water park! The three of us stayed at the hotel all weekend and even got Papa Steve and Grandma Annie to come play at the water park on Sunday morning. Now we are fielding many requests to go back to the water park.
The very next weekend I had a baby shower to attend for girlfriend and got to meet Emmet, Courtney's new baby! He is adorable and we can't get enough of him. The shower was fun and I got to see lots of girlfriends and celebrate yet another baby girl joining our gaggle.

What an awesome addition, no kidding. Mark and Roxy did pretty darn well on acquiring these additional 'kids'. These six people are an amazing amount of fun to be around.

She was thrilled to hold the baby and help Courtney feed him his bottle.
It was good practice for her upcoming big sister duties.
Allie was in town this last weekend and we barely made her work at all! Friday brunch and painting was a thrill for all of us. Wow do I love that Make a Messterpiece; it's $5 to paint for as long as you want and I don't have to clean it up.

Reflection
Occasionally, we have a moment to reflect on our lives and appreciate them. Occasionally, life just slams on the brakes and makes you. This past week a friend of ours lost his father to a sudden heart attack. Yesterday evening we attended the wake and hugged him helplessly. There is little you can say in this situation. This irreplaceable Dad was only 52.
Over the last few years we have been to many wakes and funerals like this of our friends and family. Of course, we know that as we grow older they become more frequent and more expected. Slowly they have transitioned from grandparents to parents and still more have had serious health scares.
It's all part of life, but it does make me stop and appreciate all the wonderful people around us. Maybe we ought to pause and take a moment to spend with them more often. I am as guilty as anyone, trying desperately to return phone calls to the people I love the most between work and family and every day obligations.
This week I want so badly to talk to my own parents and make sure they know that I love them and care about them so that I won't have regrets when it's my turn to stand and hug an endless line of people who don't know what to say. My Mom and Dad are off in South America of all places, and so I will have to wait a couple more weeks before I can tell them all this. Guess I'll give Jason and Layla a few extra hugs in the meantime.
