Buzzzzzzzz

Yesterday we took the kids to Lincoln Park Zoo and Conservatory.  It was not very nice weather but the rain stayed away.  We ventured to one of our old neighborhood favorites, Stanley's, for the Brunch (or late lunch on our case) Buffet which includes home-style indulgences like fried chicken and mac-n-cheese.  Plus they have a make-your-own Bloody Mary Bar.  Usually there is a line out the door, but we walked right in.  The kids were great and we had a nice long and relaxing lunch.  And none of us really felt like doing anything except sleeping the rest of the day.  Which is mostly what we did....

Layla managed to eat a little dinner, but was mostly stuffed like we were.  As she sat at the table:

L: Mom, my foot is buzzing!
J/B: What?
L: Daddy, My foot is buzzing.
J/B: (to each other) Do you know what she is saying?
L (louder, almost shouting): My foot is buzzing!

Her foot fell asleep.

Something Beautiful

As we are driving this morning to do errands:

L: Why are we going this way?
B: It's so beautiful today and this is a pretty road to drive on.
L: Yeah, the mud is so beautiful!
B: Oh?
L: Yeah, it's nice and shiny.
L: BUT, I don't like to eat mud, just look at it.

So Cool

This morning as the kids are eating breakfast I get dressed as usual.  When I come out of my room Layla says (with enthusiasm), "Mom, you look so cool!"

This is noteworthy and must be recorded for several reasons:

1. I am not very cool and never have been, especially when it comes to clothing.
2. My daughter is 3 going on 13 and will probably never say this to me again.
2a. Okay, maybe she might in about 20 years, but it will probably just to be nice.
3. It's possible no one else has ever said this to me except my own mother and probably just to be nice.

p.s. Maybe I will have Jason take a photo of me to memorialize this day on which I look so cool.  I'm not into selfies.

Poor Pluto

B: Tell me the names of the planets again.
L: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
B: What about Pluto?
L: Pluto is not a planet
B: Well, what is Pluto then?
L: Pluto is a dog!

I also wanted to add to this post that I went with Layla and her class to the planetarium, the culmination of their unit on planets.  The kids were so excited to make the trip.  The bus ride was painful, but totally worth it.  We had a wonderful time!

The kids LOVE the bus ride.  This cannot be understated.  Going on the bus downtown is huge.

It was a picturesque day outside the Adler Planetarium.

Bath-tized

At school recently, they have been talking to the kids about baptism.  Layla is convinced this has something to do with bath time, a bath-tism, if you will.  Today she got to see the baptism of her baby brother up close, and of course he was bathed in holy water (well dribbled on his head, anyway).  I am not sure it actually clarified the language confusion for her but we had a good day!

Where did April go?

What a strange month.  Last year it was 80 in March, this year it was snowing in April.  We headed from a huge rain storm in Illinois up to Minnesota to catch the tail end of a huge snow storm.  Not too bad until the last 100 miles and I white-knuckled it all the way.  The kids did great in the car and slept most of the way.

Our playground had a moat!

We had a great time introducing the MN family to the meatball and catching up with everyone.  We packed the weekend with activities, including a trip to the Science Museum, Cossetta (a favorite St. Paul haunt), dinner out with friends to Psycho Suzi's (as fun as it sounds), a visit to a new baby, and a family party.

JJ with Uncle Paul.
We visited Paul on Friday afternoon and he gave us a picture from when he was just 20, I think.  It looks a lot like JJ.  We were wondering who he looked like.....

Great-great Uncle Bud

The week before this Jason had let Layla watch Jurassic Park (against my better judgement).  She was NOT scared at all and got on a big dinosaur kick.  The skeletons at the Science Museum were a big hit.

A few delicious drinks at Psycho Suzi's and everyone is smiley!
