Eggs!

Easter Egg Hunt at the UMC in Glenview, the weekend before Easter!
Lots of events during the Easter season, so we can hunt for eggs and get a lot of candy stockpiled.

Pretty in Pink

Jayden found one egg in the bottom of this downspout and spent the rest of the allotted egg-hunting time rolling the egg back into the downspout!

Our beautifully decorated eggs!  I thought I had a picture of Jayden's blue and green hands too......

Happy Easter

It reached 80 today on our car thermometer! That's a bit warm for April, but it was such a beautiful day and everyone has been tired of the cold weather for awhile now.

We headed down to the U of C campus to Rockefeller Chapel today for Easter service.  There was a lot of music, an egg hunt and everyone enjoyed the beautiful setting.  Lunch was at the Parrot Cage, which made Layla giggle every time we said it, she thinks the name is hysterical.  The Parrot Cage is at the South Shore Cultural Center, an historic Park District building right on the water.  We went for a little beach walk after lunch.  Our littlest water baby would have gone all the way in, if we had let him!

March and Minne-trip

March was pretty busy with work and other life stuff so I didn't post a lot.  The kids and I took a quick weekend trip to MN.  We stayed with Allie and Ryan and got a lot of visiting packed into a couple of days: Science Musuem and Cossetta's Lunch, Maple Maze and Buca Dinner with cousins, Visit to our Haack cousins, and I even got to do dinner with my girlfriends!  It was a fun weekend and I was very happy to survive the drive solo.

Pool time with Layla's Buddy, Tyler.

Cute firefighter!

Two kids happily trapped in the Maple Maze tree house.

One goes backwards and one goes headfirst, a few dozen times.

Things I can't explain

Another day, another story on the radio.

L: Mom!  They just said Washington D.C. That's where Aunt Rachel lives!

B: Yes, it is.  Did you know that is the capitol of our country where the President lives and our government works?

L: Why is it called that?

B:  It is named Washington for our very first president, George Washington.

L: Oh!  What did he wash?

Russia

Fortunately, on a regular day I don't spend a lot of time in the car.  When I do, the radio is usually not on because the kids are with me and they talk incessantly so unless I am playing specifically requested music that's all I can hear.  One day a couple of weeks ago NPR was on and Layla was picking up on some words.

L: Mom!  I just heard them say they are celebrating in Russia!  What are they celebrating?
(Russia is of special interest to her as of late since that is where Uncle Victor is from and the Olympics were held there.)

B: Well, they are celebrating but we don't really think it's a good think they are celebrating.
(This conversation took place as they were having fireworks in Moscow to celebrate the annexation of Crimea.)

L: Why, what happened?

B: They went to another country and said, "Hey, you Ukrainans: you are now Russian."  And we think you can't just go to another country and take it over.

She looks puzzled and doesn't say anything so I continue on.

How would you feel, I ask her, if the Russian Army came to Glenview and told us we are now part of Russia instead of the United States.

L: I wouldn't like it.

B: What would you do?

L: Well, you know Mom I am in the Lord's Army!
