Last week the kids celebrated 100 days of school. Just before that we got Chutes and Ladders from Allie for Christmas. I am not sure which, or both, or neither, of these events sparked my daughter's interest in counting to 100, but she likes to do it every day while we are driving in the car.
She's mostly got the hang of the rhythm but struggles with the 10s.
We count to 100 together with alternating turns. Then:
Layla: Mom, you count really fast to 100.
Beth: (I count to 100) Now you count really fast to 100.
Layla: 1, 2, 3.........29, 90, 91, 92......100!
Beth: Great job, you counted really fast except you missed all the numbers between 30 and 90.
Layla: Well, where did they go?
Beth: Remember 31, 32, 33 and so on?
Layla: Oh yeah! 31, 32, 33.......39, 90, 91, 92....100!
Beth: What about 40?
Layla: (giggling) That's so silly Mom!
And then we count together again.
