New Front Walk

In an on-going effort to spruce up the aesthetic of our home, Jason and I have been working on a new front walk.  We were able to procure some flagstone pavers, thanks to the generosity of a friend.  The kids have been, while not especially helpful, at least enthusiastic and able to entertain themselves while we worked, mostly by playing in the large pile of gravel and sand in the front yard.

 Jayden loves to 'push' the wheelbarrow.  I do not, so this is a good trade-off.

Big kids love the machines that are necessary for this kind of work.  Jason's first tool rental of the day was a tiller, the second was the tamper that compresses the soil.  

The new path is in and stamped down, the dirt moved over to the old path.  If you've been following this new house adventure you will probably not be surprised to learn that there were two layers of concrete pavers.  The beautiful colored ones you see above and then another layer under about 3" of sand below.  Why not?

In between this, which I neglected to photograph, was weed barrier and then gravel before the pavers were ready to be set.  Jason had a heckuva time piecing that puzzle together.

The pavers are set in the new walkway.  The seed is starting to take on the old path.  It's not "done" because we are going to do some plantings, etc along the path but it's looking pretty good!

P.S. The two photos just above show the before and after of painting the door trim too.  There are only a few more spots to paint on the front.  Maybe I can get Dad to help me on his next trip?!?!
