Saturday morning we visited Layla's friend, Madeline, who has a new baby brother. Jayden invaded their playroom so that they could get prepared for how to babyproof! Madeline was not so happy with the prospect of a baby boy into all her stuff, I guess she has that to look forward to.
Saturday night we had dinner at the home of our friends, Jerry and Amy. They are also both architects and they have two boys. Elliot is in kindergarten and he and Layla are at school together and will be at the same elementary schools. I got to know Elliot a bit when I coached a soccer class at school and he is a real sweetie. The boys have A LOT of legos so Layla was in heaven. We told her she has to wait another year or so before we get real legos since Jayden still likes to put small things in his mouth.
Our friends have an 1890s bungalow which they have partially renovated (awesome kitchen!) and are working on more projects. We enjoyed seeing their projects and share in the stories. Their house is on the same street and only a few houses from where our house was originally located. We think that the oldest part of our house predates 1900 and so these would have been some of the earliest houses built in downtown Glenview.
Amy and Jerry both like to cook and Jerry has started making pasta from scratch. In our family, Layla has been really into cooking and loves to watch Top Chef. Jerry showed her how to work the pasta machine and she was over the moon, cranking out the pasta for our dinner. It was a really fun night for all of us!
The weather was so nice all weekend, and I really wanted to take the kids to the beach. From
our house we can head about 10 minutes east and drive right into
Gillson Park, where there is an extensive park and public beach. It
was very peaceful and beautiful right at sunset.
