We celebrated the Fourth of July at Family Days in Deerfield. There was a petting zoo set up with sheep, goats, pigs, geese, and a bunny. There was also pony rides, maybe next year Layla will be able to go on a pony!
Our town has a pretty good sized parade and we even got a real politician, Dan Seals, who is running for Congress. His main opposition the last two elections was Mark Kirk. Since Kirk is now running for Senate I think Seals has a pretty good shot at winning. I digress. The parade started off with Public Works Equipment (a huge pump truck and a bulldozer). Then we were treated to a bunch of Fire Engines before we settled into antique cars and trucks, girl and boy scout troops, sports teams, dancers, cheerleaders, and marching bands. We also had bagpipes which are usually my favorite. Layla liked the fire engines and the girls that wave the flags in the Marching Band. But, her favorite was the dog parade from the local animal shelter, Orphans of the Storm.
